A 1992 concept for a Martian SSTO ascender

In this NASA concept animation of 1992 you can see what an SSTO actually might look like. An SSTO lifting off from Earth would be larger but not much. Our vehicle design doesn’t need to get really big because we use bottom droptanks paired with an Aerospike engine. The resulting vehicle would only be about half to double as tall, and some 8 meters in diameter.
